All the people that bought a boat during the pandemic have reached the end of their rope trying to maintain/pay for them. Given how outrageous the prices got during that timeframe this market correction is long overdue.

Slip fees have gotten stupid, gas is stupid high, marine parts and services are stupid high. Marine mechanics and service providers are stupid unreasonable. Insurance is absoutely unbearable. Nothing about boat ownership is justifyable. The cost of buying the boat is bad, but it's everything that goes along with the boating lifestyle that is stupid expensive.

Try older sail monohulls if you want to find price collapse. Good quality boats which will carry you across oceans in the 40 foot range are listed under a 100k and sitting on the market. Meanwhile cats continue to be overpriced, poorly built and generally ugly. Go figure.

Hey Paul. I spoke to you on the phone a couple of years ago. I was one of the guys that told you I felt like I was talking to a celebrity. Anyway, In line with what you're talking about here I just had a survey done on a boat I was considering buying. The original asking price was 185000. It was then dropped to 125000. I put an offer of 65000 contingent on the survey. They accepted it. I was told the boat was kept meticulous but the owner died. During the survey they found a lot of moisture points 20% to 50%. There are no maintenance records cruise logs or anything except a box of owner's manuals. Filters coolers have no date or hours written on them. Survey your thanks it's a lot of quality for the money but we hauled it out and the engine surveyor found the cutlass bearings all 4 of them bad. Right off the top that's a $3500 job including haulout and blocking for 2 days. If you had a minute I would like to talk to you or if you have a good trawler in mind down here in South Florida for under 65000 I would be interested. I'm pretty set I'm having twin Ford Lehman's. You're talking a 30 percent mark down. That is a pretty big mark down to move a product. I noticed my local Walmart just increase the aisle size to make the store look full, but they are carrying less product. Plus, a lot of clearance items all over the store. Walmart usually gives you a great picture of what is going on in the economy.

Awesome video Paul.....As I've said, It's been difficult to find the perfect boat. I've been looking for a boat 40' - 45'. It must come with low hours, "AND" a beautiful woman 45-50 years old, she must be able to drive the boat, maintain it, and must be rich. If she's not rich, that's a deal breaker in this market. So, I changed my criteria, "she" can be 50-55 years old. But now, there are a lot of good deals with the prices dropping. Not sure what's cheaper, and maintenance costs? The trawler with diesels, and low hours or the woman? 😋😋😋

What about slip fees? Are they on the way up or down? I’m hoping down but betting up because of insurance

We sold our 42 Bertram in November, 2023 and had originally planned to buy another boat. But, we’re watching used boat prices crashing, too. They are a long way from the bottom.

Gday Capt’s I just rebuilt a couple of those 454’s. WOT what rpm did you get - should get close to 4500. Was the bow trimmed down? At 2000 rpm you should be rolling 8 kts

We have a shallow draft Corsair F24mkII trimaran sailboat which we camp with. I want to research sailing from pensacola to tampa, but I just cannot seem to find info. Our plans are for staying close to shore which is a different route than most Great Loopers. I need tips and warnings for my trip planning. Anyone know of a good resource?

Seems like a gas boat would make a better live abroad from a price point if you do not have to use that American Express. I am assuming a gas SeaRay is a hug discount compared to a diesel powered one.

I've spoken to Capt Paul many times om my boat buying journey. I've met him as well. I hold him in high regard and would recommend him to anyone like me (noob, 60 yr old guy whose only boat was 15 yrs ago 18' bayliner). He taught me a lot and I always felt he kept my best interest in mind. I've learned a lot from him. I ended up buying my first boat w lots of input from Capt Paul over the journey

You are pretty close with your numbers. I should have about 120-130 when I am done with the generator. Probably 200 hours of my labor as well. She is certainly not perfect but neither am I!

I'm not sure elections have any sway on prices. I went through 10 and figured it was up to me. So I saved and planned, then bought a boat and retired.

My grand banks 36 sat covered up for 18 years there were 3 of us put in offers, the other 2 guys only wanted the Lehmans, I wanted to restore it and take it to Florida so I won, the owner didn't want it scrapped and my bid was 5 grand lower 😅😂
